You will administer injections, conduct point-of-care tests, and maintain accurate EHR documentation while upholding HIPAA and infection control standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program from an accredited institution.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and infection control standards.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, medical history, and chief complaints.
  • Perform preventive care screenings and identify care gaps using EHR tools.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist providers during procedures.
  • Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as ordered.
  • Perform point-of-care testing (glucose, urine dip, pregnancy tests).
  • Conduct EKGs, phlebotomy and specimen collection when applicable.
  • Maintain sterilization of instruments per infection control protocols.
  • Document accurately in the electronic health record and ensure confidentiality.
  • Support MAT/SUD intake, screening, and treatment coordination.
  • Assist obstetric care and women’s health procedures within scope.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and participate in committees.

Statement of PurposeUnder the supervision of a licensed provider and direction of the Clinic Manager. This role supports efficient clinic operations in the delivery of comprehensive, patient centered, and integrated care, including but not limited to primary care, behavioral health, women’s health, obstetrics, and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). The MA contributes to preventive care, care coordination, and population health management to improve patient outcomes in a federally qualified health center setting aligned with HRSA requirements.Major Tasks, Duties and ResponsibilitiesRoom patients and obtain vital signs, medical history, and chief complaintsPerforms clinical and administrative duties in accordance with California Business and Professions Code Sections 2069–2071Perform preventive care screenings (e.g., depression screening, tobacco use, BMI)Identify and address care gaps using EHR tools and health maintenance alertsPrepare patients for examination and assist providers during proceduresAdminister injections, immunizations, and medications as orderedPerform point-of-care testing (e.g., glucose, urine dip, pregnancy tests)Conduct EKGs, phlebotomy (if applicable), and specimen collectionOperate and maintain autoclave equipment; ensure proper sterilization of instruments and supplies in accordance with infection control protocols, including documentation and monitoringEnsure accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)Support preventive health measures, including immunizations, cancer screenings, and annual wellness visitsReview patient charts prior to visits to identify due or overdue preventive servicesAssist in closing care gaps related to chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension)Support quality measures aligned with UDS, HEDIS, and organizational QI goalsEnsure patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAAConduct patient outreach and support population health initiativesSupport MAT/SUD with intake, screening, pharmacy coordination, treatment plan and follow up, and reinforce treatment adherence and appointment compliance through patient outreachSupport obstetric (OB) care by assisting with prenatal visits, coordinating labs and screenings, providing patient education and follow-up, and assisting providers during women’s health procedures (e.g., pelvic exams, Pap smears) within scope of practiceSupport Mental Health services by administering and documenting standardized behavioral health screening tools, assist with medication administration processes (non-dispensing), including documentation and coordination with providersParticipate in safety program to promote client and staff safetyMaintain professional boundaries and standards of conductTreat clients with respect, care, and concern at all timesMaintain health and safety standards within the facilityRecognize personal biases and demonstrate cultural sensitivity when working with diverse populationsAttend meetings, trainings, and participate in committees as assignedPerform other duties as assignedMedical Assistant Competencies and Performance ExpectationsAbility to complete the above major tasks, duties and responsibilitiesAbility to demonstrate professional judgment and decision-makingAbility to adhere to professional standardsDemonstrated proficiency in clinical skillsAccurately documents patient information in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely mannerAdheres to infection control, safety, and clinical protocols at all timesDemonstrates ability to support integrated care workflowsAdminister specialty injections including but not limited to MAT, psychiatry, and contraception medications.Prerequisite QualificationsThe following are the qualifications required to perform the essential functions of this position. Qualifications may be subject to modification based on the Americans with Disabilities Act.High school diploma or equivalent required.Completion of a Medical Assistant training program from an accredited institution.Basic knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and infection control standards required.Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems and basic computer skills is highly desirable.Ability to perform both front office and back office duties, including patient intake, vital signs, and documentation.Must have valid California driver’s license and liability insurance if driving a personal or company vehicle on BHS business.Vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination must be adequate for the performance of job duties. Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, and perform clinical and administrative tasks as required.Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
