Cherry Hospital is seeking a Health Care Technician I to provide direct care and support to patients with complex needs in a state-of-the-art psychiatric facility. Cherry Hospital is currently seeking candidates for upcoming on-site CNA classes. If selected, you will be employed full-time and eligible for benefits. During the course, the work schedule will typically be Monday through Friday, daytime hours, 40 hours per week. Employees will participate in classroom instruction, in-service training, on-the-job training, job shadowing and clinicals. The state testing for CNA certification is included in the course at no charge to the employee.
The Health Care Technician I (HCT I) will be primarily responsible for providing direct care and person centered supports to residents with complex physical, intellectual, medical, and behavioral needs. Hospital units for assignments are as follows:
-The Geriatric Admissions Unit provides treatment for patients 60 years and older. While most of the patients in the unit have confusion and/or disorientation associated with dementia, there are others with persistent mental illness. Although patients are usually ambulatory, many suffer from age-related physical illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis or cardiovascular disease. Most require some assistance with their basic needs. The objective of the unit is re-motivation, reorientation, and rehabilitation of patients in an effort to return them to their community and families.
-The Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU) is a unit for the treatment of psychiatric patients with physical illness who cannot be managed on a general psychiatric unit due to the nature and severity of the medical illness. Patients are admitted to this unit from other hospital units. The primary goal of the MPU is the stabilization and treatment of the patient experiencing an acute medical. The primary focus of this position includes, but is not limited to providing active programming and ensuring safety of our patients, which is driven by individual patients’ treatment plans.
-The Adolescent Unit is a 22-bed unit which serves individuals from the age of 12-17 admitted to the hospital. Theobjective of the adolescent unit is multidisciplinary crisis stabilization, focusing on various psychiatric illness and behavioral challenges.
-The Adult Acute Admissions Units consist of three patient care units, two male and one female. This unit’s objective is for adult multidisciplinary crisis stabilization, with a focus on various psychiatric illness and behavioral changes. Patients transition from the AAU to the Independent Transition Unit (ITU).
- Our Independent Transition Units (ITU) consist of four adult patient care units, three male and one female. Patients transition from the Admissions Units to the ITU with goals to achieve a life beyond inpatient hospitalization and transition back into the community.
This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay
over during adverse weather events.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
“A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
