Healthcare Technician I/CNA - Broughton Hospital

Join our team of caring and compassionate healthcare professionals. Broughton Hospital is currently accepting Health Care Technician I/CNA applications for all shifts, with the primary need being on 12-hour night shifts. The primary focus of this position is to monitor patients who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse diagnosis, implement specific goals identified in the patient treatment plans, and perform basic nursing care within the scope of a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA). Work involves ongoing contact with individuals who may be diagnosed with a wide spectrum of psychiatric and/or developmental conditions that may include unpredictable and maladaptive behaviors. Work is performed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, which functions as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Obtaining vital signs
  • Training and assisting patients with activities of daily living
  • Maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment
  • Providing ongoing observation, interaction, and feedback to patients
  • Reporting concerns and recommendations to the appropriate professional program staff
  • Other duties as delegated by and completed under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

The normal work schedule is a 36-hour/48-hour rotation schedule over a two-week period with alternating weekends and holidays. However, flexibility is required for training and education purposes and to meet hospital needs.

This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

The following shifts are available:

Work Schedule Shift Premium

12-hour Day: 7:00 am-7:30 pm 5% Weekend

12-hour Night: 7:00 pm-7:30 am 20% Weekday & 25% Weekend

*8-hour shifts will be considered upon request.

Please note: Selected applicants would be required to work Monday-Friday, 40 hours/week for the duration of new employee orientation and training. Broughton Hospital provides in-house training for selected applicants who are not currently Certified Nurse Aides (CNA). During our six-week CNA program, employees will participate in classroom instruction, in-service training, job shadowing, and clinical instruction. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing the Nurse Aide-I program and obtaining Certification as a Nurse Aide. All hired staff will also attend BLS/CPR training, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training, and Hospital Approved Techniques (HAT) training during orientation.

Salary Grade: MH01

Recruitment Range: $35,360 - $44,621

Management prefers candidates with the following:

  • Active and unrestricted CNA listing with the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation, in good standing.
  • Experience working with individuals diagnosed with a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance abuse.

Special Condition for Continued Employment:

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus

Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

  • A newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
  • An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
  • The employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
  • The employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
  • Or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
