Job Description

Health Benefits Analyst - ( EAS0000007L )

Description

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about driving results. This is a hybrid role based in Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Hartford, CT; New York, NY; or Washington, DC. If you thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy building strong relationships, and are motivated to make an impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Begin your health benefits consulting career with meaningful client work from the start. As a Health Benefits Analyst you will support complex financial and health plan analyses for a diverse client base while building technical, analytical, and consulting skills as well as knowledge of the evolving health benefits landscape. Working alongside and collaborating with experienced consultants, you will gain hands‑on exposure to real client engagements, receive coaching and mentorship, and assume progressively greater responsibility as you build technical expertise, sound judgement, and industry knowledge. Segal also supports employees who choose to pursue actuarial credentials and other relevant professional development.

The Role

You will work closely with consultants, analysts, clients, and carriers or vendors to produce accurate, well‑documented analyses and client‑ready deliverables. Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing health plan data, including claims experience, utilization, and cost trends, and investigating results that appear inconsistent or incomplete.
  • Developing financial projections, budget models, renewal analyses, and plan design cost estimates using established methods and assumptions while applying sound judgement.
  • Developing age‑adjusted health claim cost assumptions and projections that support retiree health valuations and related client work.
  • Supporting vendor procurements by developing bid specifications , reviewing proposals, and organizing quantitative and qualitative findings.
  • Preparing recurring financial reports, presentation materials, and other client deliverables with clear documentation of data sources, assumptions, and methods.
  • Coordinating with client teams, clients, and external vendors and partners; communicating questions, risks, and timing concerns promptly and following through to resolution.

Analysts are expected to perform increasingly complex technical and analytical work, contribute directly to client deliverables, and develop strong analytical judgment. A strong emphasis is placed on producing accurate, high‑quality work and proactively identifying issues that may affect quality, timelines, or client outcomes.

Qualifications
What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, or related to another analytical discipline.
  • Up to 3 years of experience in benefits analysis, underwriting, actuarial work, or another analytical field is preferred.
  • Strong quantitative skills and demonstrated ability to work accurately with complex data and financial models.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document analyses so that others can understand and review the work.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, ownership, and follow-through, taking responsibility for the quality, accuracy, and timely completion of assigned work.
  • Interest in continuous learning; progress toward actuarial credentials is welcomed and supported but is not required.
  • This role is well suited for someone who is curious, analytical, detail‑oriented, and eager to take on meaningful responsibility early in their careers while developing strong technical, analytical, and consulting skills. We value work/life balance, thoughtful planning and flexibility. At the same time, client commitments may occasionally require additional hours to meet important deadlines and deliver high‑quality work.
