Job Description - Associate Benefits Consultant (NEW00000076)
Job Description
Description
We are seeking a highly motivated professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about driving results. This is a hybrid role based in Atlanta, GA; Boston, MA; Hartford, CT; New York, NY; or Washington, DC. If you thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy building strong relationships, and are motivated to make an impact, we'd love to hear from you.
Take the next step from strong technical contributor to emerging consultant. The Associate Consultant supports a broad range of group health and welfare engagements for clients, helping them evaluate benefit design, funding, cost management, and other strategic health plan initiatives. The role combines hands-on analysis, project coordination, and responsibility for defined workstreams, substantial interaction with clients and their partners, and the opportunity to coach junior colleagues while continuing to deepen expertise in complex and non-standard health consulting assignments.
Working under the direction of health consultants and senior client team members, you will independently own assigned analyses and project components and contribute directly to client discussions and deliverables. Key responsibilities include:
Analyzing claims experience, cost trends, financial performance, budget projections, renewals and plan design alternatives; and explaining the implications of findings to project leaders and clients.
Preparing reports, memoranda, and presentations that translate technical analyses into clear conclusions, tradeoffs, and recommended next steps.
Serving as a technical or secondary consultant on selected assignments, responding to client and team questions and coordinating with carriers, vendors, and internal specialists.
Managing defined projects or workstreams, including scope, work plan, budget, milestones, quality review, and delivery.
Reviewing the work of junior analysts for accuracy, completeness, and clear documentation while providing timely coaching and practical developmental feedback.
Contributing to practice development, quality improvement, and business development initiatives including proposals and expansion opportunities with existing clients.
Associate Consultants are expected to work with increasing independence, exercise strong analytical judgement, contribute directly to client relationships, and take ownership of defined projects and workstreams. A strong emphasis is placed on quality, responsiveness, mentorship of junior staff, and the ability to translate technical findings into practical client recommendations.
What You Bring:
At least 4 years of relevant experience in benefits consulting, a health plan, underwriting, or a similar employer environment.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative or business discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
Experience analyzing, designing, or implementing health and welfare benefit programs, with a strong understanding of plan design, insurance funding arrangements, and carrier operations.
Strong analytical judgement and problem‑solving ability, with attention to assumptions, data quality, and documentation.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including confidence interacting with clients, carriers, vendors, and internal specialists while contributing to the successful delivery of consulting engagements.
Demonstrated initiative, ownership, and follow‑through, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, fulfill commitments, and proactively raise issues before they affect delivery.
Ability to guide junior colleagues while remaining accountable for the quality and timeliness of assigned work.
