Job summary

Catalina Foothills School District is seeking a Health Assistant to provide daily health services to students and staff at Manzanita Elementary School. The role is 0.875 FTE (35 hours/week) for 10 months per year, with a Monday–Friday schedule from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Pay ranges from $18.40 to $19.53 per hour, DOE, with non-exempt benefits eligibility. The position requires basic first aid, medication administration, health records management, and effective communication with students,

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Certification in a health-related field or equivalent health class.
  • Two years in a school setting preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates.
  • Must possess or obtain Fingerprint Clearance card.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic first aid for minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Observe, report and log students' health information daily.
  • Consult with nurse or administrator on serious injuries or incidents.
  • Administer medications and special procedures per protocols.
  • Assist in health screenings (hearing, vision, lice).
  • Maintain student health records and immunization compliance.
  • Prepare state reports and health office supplies.
  • Communicate health observations to staff and parents as needed.

Definition

Under general supervision of the School Nurse/District Health Coordinator and school administrator, provides daily health services to students and staff.

Essential Functions

Tasks
  • Following CFSD guidelines and policies, the Health Assistant will provide basic first aid for minor illnesses and accidents;
  • Observe, report and record information related to students' condition in daily logs;
  • Consult with principal or school nurse regarding a serious injury or incident;
  • Administer medications and special procedures to students;
  • Assist in health screening such as: hearing, vision, and lice checks;
  • Maintain and update student health records;
  • Assist with school immunizations compliance program;
  • Compile statistical data for state reports, as directed;
  • Maintain needed office supplies and equipment;
  • Ensure neatness of health office, equipment and supplies;
  • Observe and report school health hazards;
  • Communicate observations to school nurse, staff, principal and parents, as appropriate;
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics
  • Knowledge of sterile and non-sterile wound care.
  • Knowledge of Arizona State laws regarding student immunization requirements.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions and Blood Borne requirements.
  • Knowledge of communicable diseases.
  • Knowledge of health emergency protocols.
  • Knowledge of confidentiality requirements.
  • Skill in identifying health matters that must be referred for professional assessment and treatment.
  • Skill in accurately maintaining health records, including daily student logs.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, administrators, students, parents and medical professionals.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Must have the ability to respond to emergencies.
Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED;
  • Certification in a health related field or equivalent school health class completion;
  • Two (2) years working in a school preferred;
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates;
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Level I - IVPP Fingerprint Clearance card through Arizona Department of Public Safety.
