Job description

The Health and Wellness Programming team is in search of a self-motivated, enthusiastic, and highly responsible individual to lead healthy lifestyle activities at various Raleigh Parks Summer Camp locations. Recent experience or a passion for planning and facilitating fitness, wellness, physical activity, healthy lifestyle, or recreational activities for all ages is desired.

This is a temporary/seasonal staff position scheduled to work between 15 and 20 hours per week. This individual will take on an important role in coordinating and facilitating wellness, fitness, physical activity, and recreational programming in collaboration with community centers and parks staff at a variety of City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources locations.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop, facilitate, and evaluate youth-focused physical activity, healthy lifestyle programming, and recreational activities.
  • Assist with the development, coordination, and facilitation of health and wellness-related activities at Raleigh Parks Summer locations.
  • Assist with the development of Summer Food meal tracking and reporting strategy for the Summer Meal Service Program.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other Parks Recreation and Cultural Resources staff members.
  • Assist in the research of supplies, professional services, and other programming needs with direction from the Health and Wellness Program Director.
  • Demonstrate and uphold all City of Raleigh Parks Recreation and Cultural Resources missions, values, and principles.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Health and Wellness Program Director.
Minimum Requirements:
  • At least 1 year experience delivering healthy lifestyle programs or recreational activities to youth.
  • Must demonstrate good judgment, excellent communication skills, a high level of self-awareness, and the ability to positively adapt to change.
  • Must demonstrate excellent critical thinking skills, high capacity, and desire to collaborate.
  • Must demonstrate strategic thinking and ability to make well-informed decisions.
  • Must possess a passion and commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Must be reliable, trustworthy, value safety, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Students preparing to work in any of the following fields: Health Education, Public Health, Dietician, Personal Training, Parks, and Recreational Management.
  • Applicants with Physical Activity, Group Fitness Instructor, Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), or any of the following fitness industry certifications (AFAA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, IFPA, NCCPT, PTAG, WITS) are desired.
