Job summary

Morgan Construction and Environmental Ltd. is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor (HSE) to lead safety programs on heavy civil projects across Canada. You will deliver field orientations, lead safety meetings, and partner with teams to reduce hazards.

This role requires travel to project sites and a strong safety leadership mindset. Ideal candidates will have 5+ years of relevant experience, advanced OH&S knowledge, and excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as a Health and Safety Advisor on heavy civil earthworks, construction, road building or mining project sites.
• Advanced knowledge of provincial OH&S regulations and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to connect with diverse audiences.
• Strong organizational skills to handle competing priorities and travel requirements.

Responsibilities

• Deliver field-level orientations for employees and subcontractors.
• Lead safety meetings and model strong safety culture.
• Identify and mitigate site hazards with management and workers.
• Conduct worksite inspections, audits, and provide coaching for corrective actions.
• Investigate incidents and communicate lessons learned to teams.

We are currently accepting applications to support multiple projects with our clients across Canada.

Rotation

Project dependent, most commonly 14/7, 21/7 or 20/10

Shift

12 Hours (Days and Nights)

Travel

Project Dependent - Flights via approved travel hubs (where applicable) OR Drive in / Drive out

Pre-Employment Requirements

• Successful completion of Alcohol, Drug and Fit to Work Screening
• Worker to provide
  • Valid Safety Training tickets
    • CSO / BSO / CSTS-09/ OSSA Regional
    • Intermediate First Aid with CPR & AED
    • H2S Alive
    • Bear Awareness (In-Class)
  • Valid Driver’s License & 3 year abstract with 3 or less infractions
  • CSA Approved safety boots - minimum 6" high & fully laceable.
• Willingness to travel within Canada if required.

All Morgan Field Based Workers and Equipment Operators must

• Be physically conditioned to repetitively and safely lift up to 50lbs.
• Work a rotational schedule, 12 hours a day, for both day or night shifts as required.
• Expect to handle noise and vibrations on the job.
• Embrace the elements by working outdoors in all weather conditions. Whether it's rain, shine, or snow, you'll need to thrive in diverse weather environments.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging field-level orientations for employees and subcontractors.
• Lead and participate in impactful safety meetings, setting the tone for a strong safety culture.
• Serve as a role model for workers, demonstrating safety leadership and best practices.
• Encourage teamwork and a positive attitude to promote safe work behaviors.
• Monitor work performance to ensure adherence to Morgan’s Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
• Collaborate with employees, supervisors, and management to identify and mitigate site hazards.
• Perform worksite inspections, audits, and assessments, following up with coaching and support for corrective actions.
• Identify trends and leading safety indicators, sharing insights with teams and management.
• Investigate incidents and near misses with site teams and management, ensuring lessons learned are effectively communicated.
• Communicate policies, practices, and updates to workers while staying informed of any changes from HSE leadership.
• Drive innovation by identifying opportunities to enhance the safety management program and introducing industry best practices.
• Travel extensively to various project locations as the “go-to” safety resource.
• Champion our safety culture by adhering to Morgan's Safe Work Procedures and PPE policies.
• Maintain awareness of the surrounding environment and potential hazards, such as other equipment or personnel.
• Demonstrate exceptional judgement and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrating versatility in collaborating effectively with team members and independently taking ownerships of tasks.
• Operate 2-way radio
• Other duties as / when assigned

Experience / Qualification Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of recent experience as a Health and Safety Advisor on heavy civil earthworks, construction, road building or mining project sites is required.
• Advanced knowledge of provincial OH&S regulations and standards.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build positive relationships.
• Effective time management and organizational skills to handle competing priorities.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to connect with diverse audiences.
• Self-motivated and independent, with the ability to show initiative and drive tasks to completion.
• High school diploma (required) with relevant post-secondary education (an asset).
