Job summary

1199SEIU Child Care Corporation in New York, NY seeks a dedicated early childhood professional to support adult orientations and classroom activities for ages 2–5. You will partner with the Director and an assistant teacher to ensure safety, developmentally appropriate learning environments, and effective curriculum implementation.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, 2+ years teaching experience, and NYS certification. Master’s preferred; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood education or related field approved by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene required; Master degree preferred.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience in a preschool setting for ages 2–5.
• Valid certification issued by the State Education Department.
• Knowledge of best practices in Early Childhood Education.
• Knowledge of classroom management and positive behavior guidance.
• Knowledge of developmental milestones and Early Childhood Education pedagogy.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices and guidelines.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Technology savvy with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Zoom; able to use online assessment tools.
• Bilingual abilities are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Director in developing and implementing adult orientation sessions.
• Attends staff meetings, monthly parent meetings, annual planning retreat, and other planning events.
• Submits progress reports and other records during the year as requested by the Director.
• Notifies the Director immediately of personal difficulties related to children, parents, and staff.
• Communicates and cooperates with the Director to implement program changes.
• Prepares an environment that is developmentally appropriate for the age group in the classroom.
• Works with the assistant teacher to ensure safety and well-being of the children; ensure children are never left unattended.
• Uses positive phrasing of directives for children.
• Works with individuals and small groups of children and prepares circle time lessons.
• Allocates time to give the assistant opportunities to share observations and ask questions.
• Supervises the implementation of curriculum and activities.
• Supervises the assistant or substitute to ensure effective implementation of activities.
