Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency in Dickson, TN, is seeking a Head Start Teacher Assistant to support the classroom and substitute for the lead teacher as needed. This full-time position focuses on delivering early childhood education within the Head Start framework.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; CDA credential or Associate's degree preferred (must obtain CDA within 12 months).
• Experience working with preschool-aged children (0–5) is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning daily lessons and activities; assume major classroom responsibilities as needed.
• Assess each child's development and use information to individualize instruction.
• Make home visits and work with parents to address issues and coordinate resources.
• Inform parents through conferences, letters, newsletters, and calls.
• Assist parents in obtaining community resources and services.
• Collect health information as required by the program.
• Assist with meal preparation and cleanup; eat meals with children.
• Help maintain classroom and center cleanliness.
• Participate in parent meetings or trainings.
• Recruit children for Head Start and Early Head Start programs.
• Attend meetings, trainings, and workshops as assigned.
• Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency.
• Comply with Mid-Cumberland policies and Head Start standards.

Summary: The Head Start Teacher Assistant assists the Teacher in the day-to-day operation of a Head Start classroom. The Teacher Assistant also assumes the role of the Teacher during an absence of the teacher.

Specific Duties of the Job:

• Assist in the planning of daily lessons and activities. Assume major responsibilities of the classroom as requested and as expertise is gained.
• Assist with assessment of each child's developmental level and use the information acquired from the assessment and other information to assure individualization for each child.
• Make home visits, work with parents on issues, and participate in problem-solving with parents and/or volunteers.
• Keep parents informed through conferences, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, home visits, and telephone calls.
• Assist parents in obtaining the community resources and services they need.
• Collect and provide health information on each child as required by the program.
• Assist with preparation and cleanup of all meals; eat meals with the children.
• Assist in all cleaning duties of both the classroom and the center as requested or required.
• Assist with parent meetings or trainings.
• Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
• Attend and participate in meetings, work groups, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training, and training conferences as assigned, including pre-service and in-service training.
• Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency. Submit necessary documents as directed.
• Comply with all Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

• Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED; CDA credential or Associate's degree preferred. (Must obtain CDA credential, preschool designation, within 12 months of hire.)
• Experience: Previous work within a preschool or with children ages 0-5.
