Job summary

Lutheran Social Services of the South, Inc. dba Upbring in Texas City, TX seeks a Substitute Teacher to provide temporary classroom support within Head Start programs, following lesson plans and promoting a safe, nurturing environment.

You will supervise children, assist with routines, support social-emotional growth, and work with staff to ensure positive learning experiences. Two openings available; may involve occasional travel between centers.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications: High School diploma or GED; willingness to complete Head Start training.
• Preferred: CDA in Infant/Toddler and/or Preschool; associate degree or coursework in early childhood education; Head Start experience; knowledge of Head Start standards.
• Bilingual abilities (Spanish/English or other) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Follow established curriculum and lesson plans to support children's learning.
• Supervise children, maintain a safe, nurturing environment, and promote development.
• Assist with routines (meals, rest, toileting) and transitions to support independence.
• Follow health, safety, licensing regulations and collaborate with staff to ensure positive learning experiences.
• Be flexible and responsive to classroom needs and report concerns to supervisors.

Education

High School diploma or GED equivalent

Willing to complete Head Start-mandated training and professional development
