Job summary

Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, Inc. in Traverse City seeks a Substitute for Head Start positions across Traverse Heights GSRP. The role supports children’s development and helps with daily classroom operations.

The Substitute will implement activities, assist with meals and transportation, maintain records, and collaborate with staff to ensure a safe, engaging learning environment. Flexibility to adapt to family needs and participate in ongoing professional development is expected.

Responsibilities

• Promote school readiness by enhancing children's social, cognitive, and overall development through educational, health, nutritional, and social services.
• Comply with Head Start Program Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, 5-Year Grant, MiLeap-Child Care Licensing Bureau, USDA-CACFP Requirements, Great Start Readiness Implementation Manual, NMCAA Personnel Policies, and other relevant guidelines.
• Follow agency processes, policies, procedures, and guidance.
• Adhere to the Child Protection Law, Staff and Volunteer Mandated Reporting Policy, NMCAA's Early Childhood Guidance Policy and Code of Conduct.
• Support a developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Maintain accurate records including food service inventory and procurement forms.
• Build relationships with school and food service personnel.
• Ensure a safe, healthy, and organized environment. Implement emergency procedures. Utilize Active Supervision practices. Follow policies on health care needs, food allergies, medication administration, and authorized adult releases.
• Report incidents and accidents as required.
• Assist in maintaining a child friendly environment and collaborate with staff to support day to day operations.
• Support transportation efforts and may be required to ride the bus.
• Participate with food service operations, including shopping for groceries, food transport, preparation for family style meals in the classrooms, and clean-up as necessary.
• Maintain accurate records for attendance, meals, transportation, and budgets.
• Participate in professional development to meet annual requirements.
• Utilize platforms used by NMCAA programs such as Podio, E-3, MiRegistry, GOLD, SharePoint, etc. Support all NMCAA classrooms by subbing if needed.
• Be present during core hours with children and adapt to flexible schedules to meet family and team needs.
• Complete required duties as assigned by the supervisor.
