Job summary

Allegheny Intermediate Unit in Pittsburgh is seeking a Head Start Itinerant Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing environment for 3- to 5-year-olds across the West Region. The role covers daily, short-term, and long-term coverage in Head Start classrooms, requires reliable transportation, and travel throughout the designated region.

The position follows Head Start guidelines and includes curriculum development, planning, assessments, parent engagement, and collaboration with staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field.
• Associate's degree with 3 years of experience in an early childhood setting.
• Experience teaching in Head Start or a similar program.
• Experience working with diverse families and communities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a curriculum that supports cognitive, social, and emotional growth.
• Prepare daily lesson plans aligned with Head Start guidelines and developmental standards.
• Use a variety of teaching techniques to address diverse needs, including those with special needs.
• Foster an inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, critical thinking, and peer interaction.
• Conduct regular assessments and observations to track progress and adjust activities.
