Job summary

Hill Country Community Action Association, Inc. is seeking an HS Nutrition Aide I to assist in daily meal production for Head Start. You will ensure meals meet CACFP standards, help with dietary accommodations, and support classroom staff in safety and supervision.

The role requires English proficiency, a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and completion of required certifications within 90 days. The position offers health benefits and training opportunities.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED; some cooking experience.
• Must speak, read and write English.
• Must be 21 years of age and hold a valid Class C Driver's License with vehicle and insurance.
• Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Review menus and estimate food needs using food program software.
• Purchase approved supplies from local stores or vendors; stay organized.
• Prepare purchase summaries and keep receipts.
• Review labels to ensure CACFP requirements are met.
• Inventory, label, and safely store food.
• Prepare meals for children following health and safety rules.
• Record food temperatures.
• Complete CACFP documentation.
• Maintain up-to-date inventory of kitchen equipment and products.
• Handle food labels and CN labels.
• Clean and sanitize work areas daily.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and update dietary requirements.
• Work as a team and assist co-workers as needed.
• Complete Self Inspection Checklists and correct findings.
• Attend training courses as requested.
• Assist teaching team with supervision and food activities.
• Be involved in special events and kitchen activities.
• Involve children in kitchen activities as appropriate.
