Job summary

UETHDA is seeking a dedicated Head Start Teacher to design and implement developmentally appropriate plans for three-, four-, and five-year-olds, fostering emotional, physical, cognitive, and social growth.

The teacher will work with children and families from diverse backgrounds in inclusive classrooms, integrating technology, and conducting assessments to support individualized learning. collaboration with Family Engagement Specialists is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or AS degree in early childhood education preferred.
• Two years or more experience with preschool children.
• Meet Tennessee DHS standards for Day Care Centers.
• Head Start Outcomes Framework knowledge encouraged.
• Ability to follow pacing guides and create lesson plans.

Responsibilities

• Promotes social and emotional development with positive guidance.
• Develops and implements daily developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
• Maintain a safe, healthy classroom following Active Supervision and safety curriculums.
• Communicates headcounts and follows transitions throughout the day.
• Supervise and train classroom staff and volunteers with constructive feedback.
• Implements classroom management to ensure smooth operation.
• Support each child’s emotional development in a warm, culturally sensitive environment.
• Observe, assess, and plan activities to promote physical and cognitive growth.
• Collaborate with Family Engagement Specialists for parent meetings.
• Prepare and submit reports to meet Head Start Performance Standards (HSPPS).
• Perform duties as assigned by Education Coordinator/Manager/Director.
