Job summary

Neighbors In Need Of Services Inc. is seeking a kitchen helper to assist the cook with planning, food preparation, and serving for Head Start meals.

You will follow daily menus, ensure portions meet requirements, and help maintain a clean, organized kitchen environment. The role requires 18+ years old, a valid driver’s license, English proficiency, and the ability to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate if not already held.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• No criminal record or criminal charges pending.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with liability insurance.
• Must be able to speak, read and write English.
• First Aid/CPR certification required or willing to obtain.
• Clear TB and physical examination before first day.
• Food Handler's Certificate or at least two years' experience in quantity cooking.

Responsibilities

• Assist the cook in preparing the grocery shopping list from agency menus and documenting foodservices program.
• Assist the cook in preparing and serving food and ensuring mandated amounts are served.
• Follow menus for breakfast, lunch and snack, ensuring mandated portions are served to children.
• Prepare and serve food in an appetizing, colorful way.
• Assist the cook in preparing food-related reports, inventories, daily menus, records, etc.
• Wash daily dishes, pots and pans.
• Assist the cook in maintaining kitchen sanitation and keeping equipment, floors and stoves clean.
• Follow the required dress code: Uniform, Hair Net, Closed Shoes.
• Attend staff training through pre-service and in-service workshops when necessary.
• Supports Head Start families in improving children’s health and academic success.
• Performs other duties assigned by supervisor related to program operations.
• Willing to work weekends, holidays, and/or evenings
