Position: HEAD START HIPPY HOME VISITOR

Location: Calvert County Public School District, Plum Point Elementary School, Huntingtown, Maryland

Starting Date: Immediately

The HIPPY Head Start Home Visitor is responsible for initiating and maintaining weekly home visits with families participating in the Home Base option of the Head Start Program. The role includes case management of families of three‑year‑old children, conducting developmental screens, establishing Individual Family Support Plans, providing parent–child activities, and collecting and imputing data for each family. Visits occur primarily in the family’s home and typically last at least ninety minutes. The Home Visitor may also facilitate parenting support groups and support the development of additional community resources.

Qualifications
  • Two years of college credit, with preference for a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working with children ages 3–5 and their families.
  • Knowledge of normal child growth and development and of parent–child interaction strategies.
  • Ability to plan and conduct group meetings and special activities.
  • Skill in motivating parents and applying HIPPY principles.
  • Ability to set up learning stations in the home environment.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to refer families to external services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written communication.
  • Good organizational and record‑keeping abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in tasks related to the responsibilities above.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain regular family contact as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
  • Assist families in setting up in‑home learning stations.
  • Role‑play new activities with families.
  • Administer the ASQ and Brigance screenings for each child.
  • Initiate referrals to the Infant Toddler Program when developmental delays are observed.
  • Assess and report family progress.
  • Maintain a dependable, punctual work schedule, including flexible hours as required.
  • Adhere to HIPPY, Head Start, and CCPS policies.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Work effectively under stress and meet deadlines.
  • Other duties as directed by the Program Coordinator or Grant Manager.
Physical & Unusual Demands

Requires light physical effort and may involve flexible scheduling.

Employment Terms

Exempt (FLSA). Eleven‑month position at $21.10 per hour, contingent upon continued grant funding.
