Job summary

Capital Area Community Services, Inc. seeks a part-time Classroom Assistant for our Head Start Preschool in Owosso, MI. The 28-hour workweek supports teachers with play-based learning, personal interactions, and social-emotional development for young children.

You will assist in preparing activities, supervising during transitions and meals, and ensuring a safe, clean classroom. Strong communication with families and staff is essential; CDA coursework is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Coursework in Child Development leading to a CDA preferred.
• Preferred work experience in a childcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher in planning and carrying out individualized instruction.
• Support self-help skills and provide positive disciplinary guidance.
• Assist in assessing children's development (anecdotal notes).
• Prepare and participate in mealtime.
• Attend scheduled trainings and maintain classroom safety and cleanliness.
• Assist in bus procedures and monitor children's behavior on the bus.
• Adhere to mandated reporter requirements.
• Be adaptable to working with different teams across four counties.
