Job summary

The Hampton Roads Community Action Program (HRCAP) in Newport News, VA, is seeking a Head Start teaching assistant to support classroom learning and supervision, ensuring a safe, engaging environment for young children in the Head Start program.

You will help implement the Creative Curriculum, promote social-emotional development, and assist with family engagement and home visits, under the supervision of the lead teacher.

Qualifications

• Must have a CDA credential or be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree.
• Enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years.
• Excellent communication skills, especially listening and writing.
• Knowledge of early childhood development and classroom best practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist in meeting the needs of diverse children and support development across domains.
• Assist in developing and implementing lesson plans aligned with Creative Curriculum.
• Support parental involvement and conduct two home visits per year as needed.
• Supervise children and ensure safety during classroom activities, meals, and field trips.
