SCMCAA is seeking a Head Start Teacher Aide/Bus Driver to support classroom activities and safely transport Head Start children to and from the center. The role combines instructional support with responsible bus operation, requiring a CDL and strict adherence to safety standards.

You will assist in daily activities, develop lesson plans, conduct home visits, and participate in training. The position emphasizes teamwork with staff, parents, and management to promote positive development.

Competenze

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possess or obtain a CDA credential within six months of hire.
• Knowledge of program curriculum, developmentally appropriate practice, and performance standards.
• Relate to children and parents in a positive, constructive manner.
• Develop and implement classroom activities based on children’s needs.
• Work well with center staff, parents, and managers.
• Operate assigned vehicle with current CDL and endorsements.
• Know bus safety regulations and Head Start transportation guidelines.
• Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
• Knowledge of child development and child care/guidance.
• Maintain conduct that promotes a positive image to staff, parents, and community.
• Obtain medical exam and TB assessment within 30 days; annual exams every five years.
• Pass background check, child abuse/neglect screen, drug screen; subject to random testing.

• Work as a team with teaching staff and assist with daily activities in Head Start.
• Develop weekly lesson plans and activities to meet children’s needs.
• Assist with teaching tasks as per curriculum and standards.
• Assist with home visits, screenings, assessments, and required duties.
• Perform duties of the teacher when necessary due to absence.
• Maintain safe driving habits and enforce passenger rules on the bus.
• Administer first aid and manage emergencies including evacuations.
• Ensure safety restraints are used and monitor passenger safety on the bus.
• Provide communication between staff and parents; be the day’s first and last contact.
• Drive bus for field trips and official Head Start business only.
• Participate in Head Start training and meetings; assist with route planning.
• Maintain emergency supplies and test communication systems regularly.
• Cooperate with all Head Start staff and follow safety procedures.
