Job summary

STEP, Inc. Head Start Program is seeking a Classroom Aide to support preschoolers and help create a safe, engaging environment where children can learn and grow. You will work with teachers to implement activities, supervise play, and reinforce positive behaviors.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, good teamwork, and basic tech skills (email/online trainings). Bilingual English-Spanish is a plus. 182-day schedule with Summers off and time for planning.

Classroom Aide

What You'll Do

As a Classroom Aide, you will work alongside teachers and other Head Start staff to support daily classroom activities and ensure children remain safe, engaged, and cared for throughout the day. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with educational activities and classroom routines
• Supporting child safety at all times, both inside and outside the classroom
• Encouraging positive behavior and social interactions
• Assisting with activities such as handwashing, toothbrushing, toileting, and meal times
• Helping prepare learning materials and classroom resources
• Building positive relationships with children, families, staff, and volunteers
• Participating in meetings, trainings, and educational field trips
• Completing required documentation accurately and on time

Depending on assignment, you may also accompany children on a bus and assist with safety procedures during transportation.

Pay Rate: $15.19 per hour

Note: Schedule is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Position follows a 182-day school calendar schedule. (Summers off!)

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements

This position is active and involves engaging directly with children throughout the day. Candidates must be able to:

• Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
• Lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Bend, kneel, squat, reach, and climb stairs
• Actively participate in children's indoor and outdoor play
• Respond quickly to ensure child safety
