STEP, Inc. is seeking a Classroom Aide for its Head Start program in Williamsport. You will support teachers and engage preschool children in daily activities, ensuring safety, attention, and nurturing interactions throughout the day.

The role emphasizes teamwork, reliable attendance, and assisting with classroom tasks, meals, and transitions. A Monday–Friday schedule runs 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a 182-day calendar and Summers off.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work effectively with young children.
• Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Basic technology skills, including email and online trainings.

Responsibilities

• Assist with educational activities and classroom routines.
• Support child safety at all times inside and outside the classroom.
• Encourage positive behavior and social interactions.
• Assist with handwashing, toothbrushing, toileting, and meals.
• Help prepare learning materials and classroom resources.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and volunteers.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and field trips.
• Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
• Accompany children on bus and assist with safety procedures when assigned.

What You'll Do

As a Classroom Aide, you will work alongside teachers and other Head Start staff to support daily classroom activities and ensure children remain safe, engaged, and cared for throughout the day. Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with educational activities and classroom routines
• Supporting child safety at all times, both inside and outside the classroom
• Encouraging positive behavior and social interactions
• Assisting with activities such as handwashing, toothbrushing, toileting, and meal times
• Helping prepare learning materials and classroom resources
• Building positive relationships with children, families, staff, and volunteers
• Participating in meetings, trainings, and educational field trips
• Completing required documentation accurately and on time

Depending on assignment, you may also accompany children on a bus and assist with safety procedures during transportation.

Pay Rate: $15.19 per hour

Note: Schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Position follows a 182-day school calendar schedule. (Summers off!)

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual English-Spanish skills are a plus

Physical Requirements

This position is active and involves engaging directly with children throughout the day. Candidates must be able to:

• Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods
• Lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Bend, kneel, squat, reach, and climb stairs
• Actively participate in children's indoor and outdoor play
• Respond quickly to ensure child safety
