Job summary

Gateway Community Action seeks a part-time transportation professional to safely transport Head Start children and monitor a school bus in compliance with DOT and program safety regulations.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a valid Class C CDL with PS Endorsement, a current CDL physical, and a Kentucky driver’s license. Strong communication and record-keeping skills are essential, with drug tests and background checks conducted.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Class C CDL with PS Endorsement within 60 days.
  • Approved CDL physical exam.
  • Valid Kentucky driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience driving/monitoring preschool-age students preferred.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Background checks and insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Transport preschool children safely in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Drive/monitor Head Start bus following program safety regulations.
  • Submit accurate monthly transportation reports.
  • Maintain current CDL physical and license.
  • Participate in required training and staff meetings.
  • Adjust schedule to program needs and provide staff breaks.
  • Ensure children are properly secured and maintain confidentiality.
  • Complete at least 15 hours of professional development annually.

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision,color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a regular part time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday with flexiblework hours and occasional Fridays with flexible work hours. In order to meet the needs of the agency,permanent or temporary changes and/or modifications to the schedule may occur as dictated bymanagement.TravelTravel is primarily local during the business day, although out-of-area travel may be expected uponnotice.Required Education and ExperienceHigh School Diploma/General Education Degree, Excellent communication and record keeping skills.Preferred Education and ExperienceExperience with driving/monitoring preschool age students.Additional Eligibility QualificationsValid Class C Commercial Driver’s License with a PS Endorsement within 60 days of employment.Approved CDL Physical Exam.Additional RequirementsValid Kentucky driver’s license, reliable transportation, and satisfactory background checks. Pass apre-employment drug test and random drug testing as required. State required minimum vehicle liabilityinsurance and uninsured motorist insurance.
