Job summary

The Community Action Council is seeking an experienced bus driver to provide direct transportation for Head Start participants and food service deliveries. You will ensure health, safety and welfare of children, staff and volunteers during trips and on the bus.

You will maintain bus readiness, follow schedules, supervise passengers, and comply with federal and agency regulations. Training includes behind-the-wheel instruction and safety checks to handle various scenarios and evacuations.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Good driving record with no at-fault accidents in the last 5 years.
• Willingness to undergo drug and alcohol testing upon request.
• Able to meet physical/mental requirements and pass necessary training.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct transportation for Head Start participants to school, center or program activities.
• Deliver food service as required for Head Start program.
• Ensure health, safety and welfare of children, staff and volunteers during bus transportation and field trips.
• Maintain school bus in good operating condition and follow schedules.

Level: Experienced, Job Location: CAC SCHS Administrative Office - Kim Kent - Richmond, KY 40475, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School, Salary Range: $19.53 Hourly, Travel Percentage: Negligible, Job Shift: Any, Job Category: Education, Job Function Statement (overall job purpose and benefit to the operation): Position is responsible for providing direct transportation services for children or adults to school, center or program related activities and food service delivery for the Head Start Program. Primarily responsible for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the children, staff and volunteers during bus transportation to and from the center and on field trips. Position must ensure that the school bus is in good operating condition at all times, pick up and drop off students as per the schedule, maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, regulations and rules of conduct. This position is responsible for ensuring program compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards regarding transportation services and with local, state and federal regulations.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma, GED, or be actively pursuing GED.
• Must have a good driving record. No at-fault traffic accidents in the last 5 years.
• Should have general record keeping ability and knowledge of service area is desirable.
• Must be willing to submit to drug and alcohol testing upon request, in accordance with federal, state, and agency regulations.
• Must meet any physical, mental and other requirements as necessary to perform job related functions with any necessary reasonable accommodations.
• Must complete training prior to transporting any enrolled child and annual refresher training which includes: classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction sufficient to enable the driver to operate the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, to safely run a fixed route, to administer basic first aid in case of injury, and to handle emergency situations, including vehicle evacuation, operate any special equipment, such as wheelchair lifts, assistance devices or special occupant restraints, conduct routine maintenance and safety checks of the vehicle, and maintain accurate records as necessary.
