Job summary

Douglass Community Services, Inc. seeks an Assistant Teacher to support a Head Start classroom, working with the Lead Teacher to nurture development across physical, social, emotional, and cognitive domains.

You’ll assist with planning, documentation, and daily activities to promote a positive learning environment. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, CDA enrollment within 2 years, CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain), and strong communication.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must enroll in a CDA credential program within 2 years of hire.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
• Basic computer skills including word processing and data entry.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive relationships with children and families.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team with initiative and sound judgment.
• Genuine enthusiasm for working with young children in an early learning setting.

Responsibilities

• Support a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment promoting development.
• Assist the Lead Teacher with lesson planning, curriculum implementation, documentation, and daily activities.
• Provide positive guidance and build relationships with children and families.
• Prepare classroom materials and maintain routines supporting healthy habits.
• Serve as Lead Teacher in absence, coordinating daily operations.
• Maintain communication with families and staff while ensuring confidentiality and trainings.
