Job summary

Douglass Community Services, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Teacher to support a Head Start classroom alongside the Lead Teacher.

You will help with lesson planning, curriculum implementation, documentation, and daily activities to foster children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth. The role offers a full-time schedule (40 hours per week, 38 weeks per year) with no evenings or weekends, and a competitive wage.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must enroll in a CDA credential program within 2 years of hire.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
• Basic computer skills including word processing and data entry.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and work collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Support a safe, nurturing classroom environment promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
• Assist Lead Teacher with lesson planning, curriculum implementation, documentation and daily activities.
• Provide positive guidance and build relationships with children and families.
• Prepare materials and maintain routines supporting healthy habits including nutrition and self-care.
• Serve as Lead Teacher in their absence and help coordinate daily classroom operations.
• Maintain communication with families and staff, ensuring confidentiality and completing required trainings.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and build positive relationships with children and families
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with initiative and sound judgment
