Job summary

The Opportunity Alliance in Portland, ME seeks an Assistant Teacher for its Head Start program. You will work with the Lead Teacher and Teacher Aide in a center-based classroom to foster growth for children and families in line with Head Start standards and Maine licensing rules.

Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, with a strong focus on cultural awareness, teamwork, and providing a safe, supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or CDA credential required.
• For Assistant Teacher in Pre-K, Ed Tech II certification required.
• Associates or Bachelors in Early Childhood Education preferred.
• 1–2 years related experience preferred.
• Commitment to cultural responsiveness and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Lead Teacher and Aide to provide a safe, nurturing learning environment.
• Support center-based classroom activities for children and families.
• Assist with implementing Head Start plan, standards, and licensing requirements.
