Grand Street Settlement is seeking a Head Start Assistant Teacher to join the Early Childhood team in Brooklyn. The role works with a Lead Teacher to implement a child-centered curriculum for 15–20 students, emphasizing development in all domains and positive family partnerships.

The candidate should have an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education (BA/BS preferred) and at least two years of teaching experience, with CPR/First Aid certification obtained within the first year.

Qualifications

• Minimum Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education; BA/BS preferred.
• Minimum two years of teaching experience.
• Ability to work with children and families with special developmental, social or cultural needs.
• Ability to maintain written records and manage time to complete tasks.
• Ability to foster positive, professional relationships with families.
• Basic computer literacy (email, Microsoft Office).
• Must obtain CPR and First Aid certification within the first year.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Lead Teacher to operate classroom of 15–20 children.
• Implement curriculum with team to achieve outcomes for all abilities.
• Support positive child growth and development across domains.
• Assist with planning daily lesson plans and individualization.
• Document observations and keep records for children.
• Communicate with families and coordinate services as needed.
• Participate in coaching and professional development.
• Assist in maintaining classroom supplies and inventory.
