Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (Major sports).
• Possesses substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of soccer and continues to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
• Serves as an appropriate role model for student‑athletes through instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success.
• Encourage socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student-athletes.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
• Coordinate and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
• Implement athletic policies approved by the Board of Education and ensure compliance by all staff.
• Interpret and apply state and league regulations consistently and provide guidance to staff.
• Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and foster morale and cooperation among staff and athletes.
• Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special sport events.
• Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Advise on and recommend policy, method, or procedural changes to the athletic director.
• Serve as a mentor to each athlete, promoting character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Oversee student-athletes’ academic progress and conduct.
• Ensure safety protocols for injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
• Maintain budgeting function with the athletic director, establish equipment requirements, and operate within budget appropriations.
• Monitor equipment rooms and coach offices, authorize entry, issue, or requisition equipment.
• Organize parent, coach, player, and guest participation for preseason meetings.
• Promote the sport within the school and through external outreach such as news media and community programs.
• Preserve good public relations with media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
