Job Description
Qualifications:
- Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
- Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of soccer and continuously seeks new theories and procedures relevant to the field.
- Acts as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
Reports To: Athletic Director (in conjunction with high school principals).
Supervises: Multiple assistant coaches and middle school coaches, coordinated with Athletic Director and principal.
Job Goal: Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success while promoting socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, confidence, and pride.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement and enforce all athletic policies approved by the Board of Education.
- Apply state and league regulations consistently and interpret them for coaching staff.
- Understand administrative command structure and submit all requests through proper channels.
- Establish fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques for staff.
- Design conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to maintain program coherence.
- Train and support staff professional growth through clinics.
- Delegate duties, supervise implementation, and evaluate assistant coaches at season’s end.
- Maintain discipline, address grievances, and increase morale.
- Assist in scheduling, transportation, and preparation of events.
- Ensure adherence to facility times and coordinate with maintenance staff.
- Provide documentation for state and system requirements (physical exams, consent, eligibility).
- Safeguard sports equipment, advise on policy changes, and maintain inventory records.
- Mentor athletes in character traits such as trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Monitor student performance and conduct; provide guidance at all events and travel.
- Implement injury and medical protocols, complete necessary paperwork within 24 hours.
- Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
- Enforce discipline, due process, and communicate with parents regarding eligibility or dropping.
- Assist athletes in college or advanced education selection.
- Participate in budgeting with Athletic Director, recommend equipment guidelines, and operate within budget.
- Store, maintain, and inventory equipment; enforce security of equipment rooms.
- Ensure facility cleanliness and monitor lockers and practice areas.
- Secure building access before closure.
- Promote the sport internally and externally through recruiting, media, and community events.
- Maintain public relations with media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
