Job summary

Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls seeks a Preschool Teacher to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate preschool program for 3-5 year olds. Responsibilities include researching, developing, implementing, and assessing age-appropriate curriculum emphasizing humanities and sciences.

The role requires enjoying working with young children and diverse groups and collaborating with staff, volunteers, and parents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or related field; preschool teaching experience and certification preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent computer and desktop publishing skills.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to develop innovative programs and curriculum and manage multiple tasks.
  • Knowledge of preschool program evaluation and teaching methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate preschool programming for 3-5 year olds using best practices.
  • Submit lesson plans to Director of Education for review and approval.
  • Stay current with professional development and curriculum trends.
  • Develop measurable objectives for curriculum.
  • Monitor budgets for the preschool program.
  • Maintain a safe, clean learning environment and supervise children.
  • Collaborate with teacher assistant, volunteers, parents, and specialists.

Career Opportunity at the Washington Pavilion in Education!

The Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all best practice research. The person in this position will research, develop, implement, and assess age appropriate curriculum and programs emphasizing the humanities and sciences. The incumbent must be a person who enjoys working with young children and diverse groups of people.

This is a FT, exempt (salary) contract position. Seasonal- End of August to End of May – Pay/benefits are distributed over 12 months. Hours: Monday- Friday between 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hrs/week).

  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate preschool programming using best practices for 3-5 year olds.
  • Submit all lesson plans to Director of Education for review and approval
  • Keep abreast of innovative, professional development, technological advances, and curriculum trends in accordance to state and national mandates through research and professional growth.
  • Develop measurable objectives for all curriculum developed.
  • Remain knowledgeable of budgets for preschool program.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, learning environment and assures the well being and safety of children in his/her care.
  • Maintain a cooperative attitude of working together with teacher assistant, volunteers, parents, and program specialists in planning and implementing classroom activities.
  • Hold two parent/teacher conferences per year as designated on the planning calendar to share each child’s progress with parents.
  • Maintain discipline and supervision of children during all Pavilion Preschool activities.
  • Represent the Washington Pavilion in a professional manner.
  • Submit to two performance evaluations per school year
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
