Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Nashua is seeking a Head Personal Trainer and Wellness Team Leader for its Nashua Branch. You will lead wellness floor operations, oversee up to 10 staff, and ensure high-quality programming and member engagement. Evening availability is required.

Reporting to the Wellness Director, you will mentor trainers, deliver education sessions, and drive a positive wellness culture within a mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• Current NCCA-accredited personal training certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 1+ years of related experience in personal training or small group settings.
• Knowledge of wellness programs including strength and functional training.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to present information clearly to employees, members, and partners.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active personal training and small group training schedule (25–30 hours).
• Lead personal training consultations and new member orientations as needed.
• Directly oversee up to 10 wellness floor representatives.
• Ensure wellness floor cleanliness and proper equipment organization; lead by example.
• Create monthly wellness floor representative schedules.
• Engage with members to gather feedback and identify improvement opportunities.
• Ensure staff proficiency with all branch equipment.
• Deliver in-branch education sessions and workshops aligned with priorities.
• Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of new trainers.
• Mentor new trainers through onboarding and ongoing development.
• Collaborate with Wellness Director to improve onboarding and trainer meetings.
• Support Smart Start processes to boost member participation.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Personal Trainer and Wellness Team Leader in our Nashua Branch, is a frontline leader of floor culture, and day-to-day wellness floor operations within the wellness department. Reporting to the branch Wellness Director, this role upholds the standard of the YMCA experience through training sessions, education, and operational accountability. The Head Trainer and Wellness Team Leader is actively engaged in session delivery, member interactions, and team mentorship. This role also directly oversees new member orientations.

This is an ideal role for a high-performing trainer who is ready to grow into leadership, someone who is passionate about coaching, invested in developing others, and excited to help build a strong wellness culture at the Y.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED

• Current NCCA-accredited personal training certification (NASM, ACE, NSCA, ACSM, or equivalent).
• Minimum of 1+ years of related experience demonstrated experience in a personal training or small group setting.
• Skills and knowledge in a wide range of wellness programs including strength training and functional training.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from employees, members, and community partners.

PREFERRED

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
• Prior management experience.
• Background in group exercise, semi-private training or small group training program design and management.
• Additional specialty certifications (CSCS, Precision Nutrition, FMS, etc.).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain an active personal training and small group training schedule, a minimum of 25 to 30 hours, leading by example on the training floor.
• Execute personal training consultations, new member orientations and other complimentary services for members as needed.
• Directly oversee up to 10 wellness floor representatives.
• Hold the wellness floor staff accountable for cleanliness of the floor including wiping down and organizing equipment. Leading, by example.
• Create the wellness floor representative monthly schedule.
• Champion wellness service standards by engaging directly with members to gather feedback and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Ensure wellness representatives are proficient with all branch equipment.
• Deliver in-branch education sessions and workshops, for staff, aligned with department development priorities.
• Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of prospective trainers.
• Assist Wellness Director in mentoring and developing new trainers through their onboarding period, serving as a hands-on coaching resource.
• Support and foster a team commitment to ongoing education, both internal and external, to maintain high standards of programming and service delivery.
• Collaborate with Wellness Director and Membership Directors(s) to continuously improve the Smart Start process and drive member participation.
• Assist the Wellness Director in communication at all stages of the member onboarding process.
• Collaborate with the Wellness Director to plan and deliver bimonthly trainer meetings.
• Assist in maintaining wellness department presentation standards including name tags, uniforms, and facility signage for wellness floor reps and personal trainers.
