Job summary

Black Hawk County Conservation is seeking an experienced Unit Ranger to oversee county parks, wildlife areas, and facilities. You will supervise full-time staff, seasonal workers, and volunteers, coordinate maintenance, safety, and public services, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

The role requires a background in resource management, law enforcement training eligibility, and a valid CDL, with a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in resource management or related field with 3 years of experience, or Associate's with 4 years, or equivalent.
• Must be eligible for enrollment in the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and complete within 1 year of hire.
• Must maintain Peace Officer's Certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid CDL with appropriate classifications.
• Experience in employee supervision, training, and public relations desirable.

Responsibilities

• Supervises, plans, and manages county parks, access areas, wildlife management areas, and facilities.
• Oversees park maintenance, repairs, and equipment operation.
• Recruit volunteers, secure materials, raise funds, and supervise contractors.
• Interact with the public, provide information, collect fees, and assist as needed.
• Ensure safety of park users and administer first aid when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of park use, attendance, and fees.
• Supervise Park Rangers, seasonal staff, and volunteers; train and evaluate personnel.
