Job description

EV adoption continues to grow, but our power grid was not built to withstand this level of electricity demand, and charging remains a major challenge for drivers. With over 80% of EV charging occurring at home, ChargeScape was formed by some of the world's largest automakers (BMW, Ford, Honda, and Nissan, with more joining soon) with the mission to enable everyone to access sustainable, affordable energy from a reliable power grid. Beyond our founding investors, we have long-term partnership agreements in place with additional EV automakers, including Tesla and Rivian.

ChargeScape's software platform serves as the connective tissue between EV drivers and power utilities, using cloud-based commands to schedule EV charging for the most grid-friendly, low-carbon hours, all while putting money back in drivers' wallets. Backed by a well-capitalized joint venture, we are hiring for a critical leadership role overseeing our managed charging programs with power utilities across North America.

Position Overview

ChargeScape is seeking a Head of Utilities to lead the launch, growth, and continued success of our managed EV charging programs across North America. This is a player-coach role: you'll lead and grow a small team of account managers while staying hands-on with the day-to-day execution that keeps our utility partners successful.

Reporting to ChargeScape's VP Business Development, you will work across business development, product, engineering, and OEM operations to ensure our utility clients experience the best of ChargeScape and that our programs deliver on their stated objectives. You will lead a current team of two account managers based in Austin, with the team expected to grow over time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Coaching: Lead and grow a team of account managers who run the day-to-day operations of our utility EV charging programs, balancing direct management with hands‑on execution.
  • Program Strategy & Contracting: Partner with the business development team to scope and finalize utility program contracts, operationalize those contracts after signature, and position programs for expansion.
  • Cross-Functional Launch Execution: Work with the product, engineering, and OEM operations teams to ensure the rapid and successful launch of new utility EV charging programs.
  • Performance & KPI Management: Set and deliver against utility program growth and success metrics, such as EVs enrolled and percentage of EV load shifted.
  • Program Monitoring & Reporting: Analyze and report on program data to utilities and other stakeholders as part of ongoing monitoring and verification services.
  • Communications & Marketing Support: Draft high-quality communications and collateral to support marketing and customer outreach efforts.
  • Product Ownership: Own ChargeScape's "Utility Solutions" suite, working closely with the product team to shape the roadmap and ensure new features align with client needs and timelines.
  • Industry Representation: Represent ChargeScape at industry events and conferences.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of utility program management experience, ideally including managed charging, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) integration, or broader demand-side management such as energy efficiency or demand response.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing a team. This is a player‑coach role and requires comfort both managing people and staying hands‑on with execution.
  • Startup or fast-growth experience, either at an early‑stage company or launching a new program or division within a larger organization.
  • Proven track record in customer success or account management, including the direct oversight of client partnerships and strategic outcomes.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills, with an understanding of utility preferences, operations, and technology stacks.
  • Strong writing, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts into clear, strategic narratives.
  • Solid understanding of the regulatory drivers behind utility demand-side management and transportation electrification.
  • A willingness to take on tasks both large and small in support of ChargeScape's clients.
  • Based in Austin, TX, or willing to relocate. This role requires in-person collaboration roughly 3 to 4 days per week at our downtown Austin office; remote or fly-in arrangements are not available.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience launching or growing a new product, program, or division from the ground up.
  • Exposure to the broader vehicle-grid integration or transportation electrification industry.
Compensation
  • Total cash compensation of $210,000 to $250,000 per year, combining base salary and an annual bonus. Base-to-bonus split to be determined based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, 401(k), and unlimited PTO.
Why Join ChargeScape?
  • Mission-Driven Work: Tackle critical energy and climate challenges by making EV charging smarter and more grid-friendly.
  • Leadership & Ownership: Build and lead a growing team while owning the success of our utility programs across North America.
  • Industry Partnership: Work directly with leading EV automakers and major power utilities to solve the vehicle-grid integration challenge.
  • Collaborative Culture: Join a supportive, highly skilled team that values clarity, initiative, and hands-on execution.
