Job summary

Deepgram seeks a Director of Research to own our Text-to-Speech program end to end, shaping strategy, architectures, and models that ship. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll set direction and also engage in the details, building a team and operating model that moves fast without lowering quality.

You'll lead research across neural audio modeling and multilingual speech, partner with engineering and product, and represent Deepgram's TTS research both internally and externally.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in modern TTS, speech generation, or audio generative modeling.
• Ability to train and improve large-scale neural models.
• Experience setting research direction under uncertainty and prioritizing experiments.
• Proven experience leading researchers and research engineers through technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Own the TTS research and model roadmap, and decide directions that move speech quality.
• Drive advances across neural audio modeling, prosody, multilingual speech, and inference performance.
• Stay highly technical: review research, design experiments, diagnose failures, and contribute hands-on.
• Build evaluation frameworks with automated metrics and perceptual assessments.
• Lead a team of researchers and tech leads, setting direction across sub-teams and hiring.
