Job summary

Trine University’s Allen School of Engineering and Computing invites applications for the Student Design Center Director. The Director will provide college-wide leadership for engineering laboratories and the Student Design Center (SDC), overseeing safety, staffing, access control, and major equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, or a closely related field.
• Substantial experience managing engineering laboratories or comparable environments.
• Experience supervising technical personnel and coordinating multi-user workloads.
• Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and occupational safety.
• Excellent communication with faculty, staff, vendors, and contractors.

Responsibilities

• Lead laboratory leadership and supervision of technicians and staff.
• Direct daily operation of the Student Design Center and manage high‑risk equipment.
• Ensure safety, access control, and compliance across all labs and activities.
• Coordinate technical support for labs, capstone projects, research, and industry projects.
• Oversee budgets, purchasing, inventories, and service contracts.
