Job description

Harrison Group, Inc. is conducting a confidential search for a Head of Strategic Planning on behalf of a financially strong, highly respected mutual insurance company with more than 120 years of history.

This newly created, high-visibility role will help shape the organization's future by connecting long-term strategy with financial performance, product strategy, profitability, and operational execution.

Reporting to the SVP, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, this leader will work closely with senior executives to strengthen enterprise planning, align business priorities, and translate strategic direction into measurable results. The role offers an opportunity to build and mature a strategic planning function within an established organization.

Please note: This is an on-site position requiring five days per week in the office. Travel is limited, generally up to 10%. Relocation assistance is provided if needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of a continuous enterprise strategic planning process, connecting long-term strategy with annual and operational plans.
  • Partner with Finance, Product, Risk, and other business leaders to align strategic priorities with budgets, forecasts, profitability, and business objectives.
  • Support multi-year planning, scenario analysis, risk assessment, and enterprise goal-setting frameworks, including OKRs.
  • Facilitate executive discussions and strategy workshops to evaluate opportunities, navigate competing priorities, and drive alignment.
  • Influence and coach senior leaders to strengthen planning capabilities, accountability, and cross-functional execution.
  • Translate complex financial, operational, and market information into actionable recommendations and measurable business improvements.
  • Identify strategic opportunities, secure executive alignment, and drive priority initiatives from planning through execution.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 10+ years of experience in strategic planning, corporate strategy, management consulting, or related fields.
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide planning initiatives and influencing senior executives across functions.
  • Strong financial and analytical acumen, including the ability to interpret financial statements and connect business performance to strategic decisions.
  • Experience with multi-year planning, forecasting, scenario analysis, risk assessment, or enterprise goal-setting frameworks.
  • Exceptional communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to build consensus and influence without direct authority.
  • Proven ability to simplify complexity, manage ambiguity, and drive clarity and action.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field required; an MBA or advanced degree preferred.

**Insurance experience is preferred but not required. Candidates from management consulting, financial services, technology, or corporate strategy may be strong fits.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Enterprise Impact: Work directly with senior leadership to shape strategic priorities and improve business decision-making.
  • Build Something Meaningful: Establish and mature an enterprise strategic planning process in a newly created role.
  • Broad Business Exposure: Partner across Finance, Product, Risk, and other functions to connect strategy with execution.
  • Measurable Results: Help establish a sustainable planning process and deliver two to three strategic business improvements within the first 12 months.
