Carbon, Inc. in Sunnyvale seeks a Head of Software Engineering to lead the software organization and deliver advanced software-enabled hardware platforms.

You will guide architecture, drive collaboration with leadership, and ensure the integration of cloud services with manufacturing tools for scalable, high-value production. The role focuses on strategic leadership, cross-functional execution, and delivering reliable software powering hardware across a global manufacturing ecosystem.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; experience delivering software-enabled hardware and cloud-based software solutions.
• Familiarity with AWS, Linux, C++, Kubernetes, Terraform, React, WebGL, PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch, Bazel.
• Proven leadership experience in manufacturing or tech-driven industries.
• Strong strategic and analytical skills with a track record of leading software solutions powering hardware and software in commercial/industrial settings.
• Excellent communication skills enabling clear, simple direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the software engineering organization, focusing on strategy, architecture, and team management.
• Strategize and execute on automating design and preparation for complex ecosystems with customers, data providers, and manufacturers.
• Drive improvements to the value of subscription-based hardware via performance, UX, reliability, diagnostics.
• Ensure tools used by the development team evolve for productivity and code quality.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and Product Management to align engineering with business objectives.
• Scale existing architecture to support diverse applications from dental to automotive to customized sports equipment.
• Maintain high availability and cost-effective performance across global factory networks.
