Job summary

The Texas A&M University System seeks a Chief Research Security Officer to steer system-wide strategy for protecting classified, controlled, and export-controlled research. You will oversee U.S.

government‑accredited secure spaces and ensure NIST SP 800-171 compliance for secure enclaves, coordinating with DoD, DOE, and Intelligence Community partners. The role leads a ~20-person team, develops security programs, and aligns TAMUS with federal requirements while reporting to the Vice Chancellor

Qualifications

• Ten years of experience supporting a Cleared Defense Contractor in academic/government environments.
• Experience managing a team across local and offsite locations.
• Experience with Special Access Programs (SAPs) and SCIFs.
• Familiarity with 32 CFR Part 117, NISPOM and related DoD compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead TAMUS Security Management Team.
• Advise TAMUS members on export control, CUI, and other security requirements.
• Develop and maintain TAMUS Counter-Intelligence and Insider Threat programs.
• Coordinate with DoD/DOE and Intelligence Community stakeholders.
• Plan, implement, and oversee security across physical, information, COMSEC, OPSEC and personnel domains.
• Ensure compliance with NIST 800-171 and related federal guidelines.
• Oversee security training programs and post-incident response.
• Collaborate with Sponsored Research Services and Contracts Offices on security requirements.
