Job summary

Abstract Bio is building a scalable biological inputs factory to enable AI for biology. As Head of Production, you will own the factory from intake to shipment, lead the team, manage capacity and cost per order, and drive reliability as volume scales.

You will work hands‑on on the floor when runs are in trouble and relentlessly pursue root causes. You will partner with R&D and Automation, implement SOPs and QC gates, and build AI‑driven planning and reporting.

Qualifications

• 5+ years running production that ships biological products.
• Ability to lead multi‑shift teams on the floor.
• Strong grasp of throughput, yield and cost metrics.
• Experience with AI or data dashboards in operations.
• Comfortable with SOPs, QC gates and CAPA concepts.

Responsibilities

• Relaunch production at 10x and define ramp plan, capacity, staffing and go‑live criteria.
• Own the order‑to‑ship loop with clear ownership and prioritized risks.
• Publish weekly throughput, yield, first‑pass success, turnaround and cost per base‑pair.
• Control the process using SOPs, QC gates and root‑cause fixes.
• Gatekeep new methods; approve entries into production.
• Build the AI‑native factory with data, capacity planning and triage tools.
• Hire and lead the production team across shifts.
• Be the customer's voice; manage escalations with data.
