Job summary

Atomic Machines is seeking a seasoned People leader to design and run the People function across onboarding, payroll, benefits, and compliance for a hardware/deep-tech environment in Emeryville. You will build systems, programs, and data foundations to scale as the company grows.

Reporting to the VP of People & IT, you will lead a team, develop organizational capability, and partner with executives across Engineering, Operations, and Finance to align People programs with strategic growth.

Qualifications

8+ years of progressive People leadership, ideally scaling a startup or high-growth tech company.
Direct experience building People Operations in hardware, manufacturing, or deep‑tech.
Experience moving from a PEO to in-house administration or establishing People Ops in new states.
Strong knowledge of California employment law and multi-state compliance.
Ability to build trust with executives by delivering tangible outcomes.

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end People lifecycle: onboarding, transfers, leaves, offboarding, and governance.
Lead benefits and payroll transition from PEO to in-house administration and multi-state payroll.
Own payroll operations and benefits strategy, including renewals and broker relationships.
Design scalable processes and internal documentation to support headcount growth.
Lead the HR Business Partner function and align People programs with business priorities.
