Job summary

NC State University’s College of Engineering is seeking a strategic Director of Engineering Online Programs to lead all aspects of online graduate offerings. The role drives pedagogy, faculty development, and technology integration to deliver high-quality, scalable online degrees and certificates.

Based in Raleigh, the role partners with DELTA and campus stakeholders to ensure robust online learning experiences, staff supervision, and effective resource management while supporting recruitment

Qualifications

• Earned Masters Degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Engineering Education, or related discipline.
• 5–7 years of leadership experience in distance education, online program management, or instructional design in higher education.
• Hands-on expertise in instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and online development frameworks (Quality Matters).
• Proven track record of managing professional staff and operational budgets.

Responsibilities

• Pedagogical Leadership: establish, promote, and evaluate evidence-based best practices for online course delivery across COE online programs.
• Faculty Support & Development: guide academic programs and faculty in designing, implementing, and refreshing online courses using STEM-focused frameworks.
• Instructional Technology Integration: liaise with DELTA and campus partners to integrate instructional technologies into online coursework.
• Team Supervision: direct, supervise, and mentor the Engineering Online staff, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Resource Allocation: oversee distribution and management of program funds to support development and updates of online materials.
• Operations & Facilities: coordinate room assignments, lecture capture setups, and infrastructure for online delivery.
• Admissions Point of Contact: serve as initial contact for online students and guide applicants to program advisors.
• Marketing & Recruitment Collaboration: provide input to communications and recruitment to promote distance education.
