This build/operating role emphasizes creating scalable systems, managing a contracted workforce, and aligning capital plans with portfolio needs across owned, leased, and co-located sites. Regular presence required.

Qualifications

• Experience leading multi-site facilities operations with contracted labor.
• Ownership of vendor performance with service levels and scorecards.
• Strong fluency across building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety).
• Experience in occupied schools or high-stakes environments.
• Knowledge of building, fire, life-safety, and accessibility requirements.
• Proven ability to inspect results and drive closure on open conditions.
• Ability to translate drawings and specs into field decisions.
• Strong financial judgment and calm decision-making under urgency.
• Credentials valued; degree type not required.
• This is NYC-based, field-oriented with regular site presence.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operating rhythm across 59 schools with prioritization and escalation.
• Direct maintenance to keep classrooms and systems safe and instruction-ready.
• Own portfolio compliance calendar for inspections and certifications.
• Write service specifications and oversee vendor performance against SLAs.
• Maintain vendor scorecards and advise on escalation or replacement.
• Lead NYC facilities management team and set priorities.
• Manage after-hours escalation rotation and coverage for leaders.
• Maintain asset inventory and inform multi-year capital plans.
• Track work orders, resolutions, and preventive maintenance quality.
• Collaborate with school leaders to resolve issues with clear ownership.
• Approve work within budgets and surface financial risks early.
