Job summary

Inherent Homes is seeking a Director of Field Operations in the Chicago area to lead modular construction field teams, oversee installation, and coordinate with internal and external partners. You will drive safety, schedule, and quality while scaling operations to support growth.

The role requires deep hands-on construction leadership, strong financial and project management skills, and willingness to travel across designated markets to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in construction operations, field management, project execution, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing construction superintendents, field teams, subcontractors, or multiple active jobsites.
• Demonstrated experience delivering complex commercial, multifamily, institutional, industrial, or other large-scale construction projects.
• Proven ability to manage project schedules, labor resources, subcontractors, safety, quality, and field budgets.
• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, site logistics, structural systems, building envelopes, and MEP coordination.
• Experience working with general contractors, specialty trades, equipment providers, and project management teams.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, scopes of work, and installation plans.
• Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel regularly to active jobsites and manufacturing or staging facilities as required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the Chicagoland area and other assigned markets.

Responsibilities

• Lead field operations across active modular construction projects in Chicago and designated markets.
• Establish standards, procedures, and best practices for site mobilization, installation, field coordination, and project closeout.
• Develop and manage field staffing plans including superintendents, site managers, installation crews, subcontractors, and specialty contractors.
• Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability to field personnel while fostering a culture of ownership and collaboration.
• Establish reporting structures, performance expectations, and escalation procedures across field operations.
• Conduct site visits to evaluate progress and ensure compliance with standards.
• Oversee delivery, staging, lifting, setting, weatherproofing, and integration of modular components.
• Coordinate crane operations, rigging plans, delivery sequencing, site access, laydown areas, and installation logistics.
• Ensure field readiness before modules leave the manufacturing facility including foundations, embeds, utilities, permits.
• Coordinate transition from factory production to transportation and on-site installation to minimize delays and rework.
• Work with manufacturing, engineering, project management, design, and procurement to resolve constructability issues.
• Oversee integration of modular units with site-built foundations, structural systems, building envelopes, MEP, and finishes.
• Ensure progress from module placement through final installation, testing, commissioning, and owner acceptance.
• Develop and monitor field execution schedules; align labor, equipment, and materials with milestones.
• Identify schedule risks and implement recovery plans; manage field resources across multiple projects.
• Establish field performance metrics and reporting; track productivity and cost performance.
• Identify opportunities to reduce rework and improve efficiency.
• Review subcontractor scopes and change orders with project management and commercial teams.
• Provide forecasts of field labor needs, equipment, and schedule impacts.
