Job summary

Vera Institute of Justice seeks a Director of Media Strategy & Campaigns to lead media strategy and campaigns in a hybrid Brooklyn office. You will own Vera’s media presence, craft messaging, and supervise a dynamic media team across national and local outlets.

The role requires deep expertise in crisis communications, advocacy campaigns, and relationship-building with journalists, producers, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience conceiving and executing media strategies for national, regional, and local audiences.
• At least 8 years of experience leading advocacy campaigns.
• At least 5 years supervising 3+ staff.
• Experience managing crisis communications.

Responsibilities

• Set and execute media strategy to advance Vera Institute and Vera Action priorities.
• Strengthen rapid response to activate around newsworthy moments on Vera’s issues.
• Lead drafting of talking points and messaging framework on Vera’s priority issues and campaigns.
• Oversee development and distribution of talking points, press releases, pitches, memos, background briefings, fact sheets and other materials.
• Partner with colleagues to build overall media and communications strategy and ensure staff are prepared for media appearances.
