Job summary

National Life Group in Montpelier, VT seeks a Director, Investment Data & Analytics to lead the investment data ecosystem end-to-end, from source systems to warehouse and reporting. The role owns data governance, quality, and architecture, partnering with IT and investment teams to deliver reliable data for committees and risk reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Data Science, or related quantitative field
• 7–10+ years of experience in investment data management, investment operations, or investment accounting within insurance
• Strong background in AI with ability to apply AI to drive efficiency
• Strong SQL skills and experience with data warehouse environments and ETL processes
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query, with ability to build repeatable data processes
• Experience with at least one institutional investment accounting/data platform (e.g., Clearwater, Eagle/BNY, PAM, CAMRA, Aladdin, Bloomberg AIM)
• Proven ability to translate between investment professionals, accountants, and IT engineers

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain investment data classification framework and reference data
• Define and enforce data quality standards and controls
• Maintain data lineage documentation from source systems to reporting outputs
• Own integrity of inputs to and outputs from investment accounting platform
• Ensure classifications support statutory reporting (SSAP, NAIC, Schedule D/BA/DB)
• Partner with investment accounting on reconciliations and break resolution
• Support quarter-end/year-end close with governed data set
• Serve as investment team product owner for the data warehouse
• Collaborate with IT on vendor feeds, ETL design, and automation
• Perform UAT for warehouse changes and feed migrations
• Manage relationships with market data vendors
• Provide data for committees, risk exhibits, ALM and ratings reporting
• Fulfill ad hoc data requests and build repeatable extracts
• Advance analytics tooling (SQL, Power BI, Python) and automation
• Provide leadership to analysts and promote data-first culture
• Lead data workstreams for system implementations and modernization
• All other duties as assigned
