Illinois State Board of Education seeks a Chief Internal Audit Officer to lead the Internal Audit department in Springfield or Chicago. You will direct staff, design audit plans, and ensure compliance with statutory and professional standards while safeguarding assets.

The role reports to the State Superintendent, oversees external audits, and provides assurance on financial reporting and internal controls across agency operations. A CIA or CPA and extensive auditing experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a business-related field with CIA or CPA and at least four years of auditing experience or five years of auditing experience.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible professional auditing experience.
• Knowledge of modern management practices, accounting, budgeting, procurement, and operations (public sector preferred).
• Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and Illinois fiscal procedures.
• Knowledge of risk management/analysis and Microsoft applications.

Responsabilités

• Directs Internal Audit staff and priorities, assigns work, and evaluates performance.
• Develops annual internal audit plan and required documentation per statutes and standards.
• Determines audit scope in response to operational changes and communicates findings to the State Superintendent.
• Coordinated external audits by Illinois Auditor General and others; drafts agency responses to findings.
• Interprets laws and regulations affecting internal audit operations and identifies risk exposures.
