Job description

KEH is the largest reseller of pre-owned camera gear in North America. And as the originator of the category has long been a trusted name for photographers, videographers, and creators. Founded in 1979, the company maintains an inventory of more than 60,000 items including over 10,000 unique models, serves a loyal and diverse community of professional and enthusiast photographers, and has built its reputation on an industry-standard equipment grading system, and a customer experience consistently ranked among the best in online retail. KEH sells primarily through its own channels which include direct-to-consumer, by phone/chat, and through physical retail.

KEH is a branded, technical re-commerce company and takes ownership of inventory, inspects, repairs (if necessary) and improves products and provides everything resold a grade, using a system that it pioneered after its founding in 1979. All items resold through its channels are sold as KEH Certified products. The company also has one of the largest repair operations in the sector and the only one with manufacturer authorization of any reseller of camera and related equipment.

The re-commerce market in photography and video is a proven successful market that is now in the early-to-mid stages of a significant growth cycle as consumers increasingly seek to buy, sell, and trade pre-owned products. Over the last 5 years KEH has experienced substantial growth and has aggressively invested into systems and people to support and continue its growth and market leadership — building the technology and operational infrastructure, expanding and deepening its pool of talent, expanding its product sub-categories, and growing adjacent and strategically accretive business lines. KEH is majority owned by D Cubed Group, a private-market-investment firm.

THE ROLE

The Head of HR & Talent is responsible for leading the continuous improvement in the culture and key capabilities of the organization, as well as securing and maintaining a highly talented, performance-oriented and engaged workforce comprised of the best talent available.

The Head of HR & Talent serves as the HR leader for the organization, with a core personal focus on talent management — both as respects internal development and external acquisition. The position also oversees the development and implementation of Human Resources strategies and programs including but not limited to compensation and benefits, talent management and assessment, and employee relations.

The right leader for this role is a high-performance individual who embraces responsibility and having a seat at the leadership table, is both strategic and hands-on, and who will develop and execute the strategies and leverage the resources/departments at the Company to assist in such.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN
  • Talent Management and Acquisition. Develop and drive integrated talent management, development, compensation, and performance management strategies that build internal and external talent pipelines, ensuring a sustainable and growing team, as well as bench, of ready-now talent for key positions throughout the organization.
  • Culture. Steward company culture by recognizing, articulating and shaping openness and comfort with change, and by crafting, valuing and personalizing culture for associates in their day-to-day activities.
  • Organizational Change. Lead change management initiatives by thoughtfully evolving existing policies, processes and cultural practices to support organizational growth, employee engagement and long-term business objectives.
  • Recognition and Rewards. Design and implement innovative recognition and rewards strategies and programs that allow the organization to attract and retain the best talent and reward high performers.
  • Core HR Processes and Effectiveness. Own the establishment and effective use of core HR processes, plans, programs and tools (compensation, employee relations, staffing, performance management and the like), together with the key performance metrics that demonstrate HR services are supporting the achievement of business strategy and goals.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Partner with the CEO and other Company leaders to build strategies that will engage people in delivering the organization’s vision.
  • Act as a coach and trusted business advisor to Company leaders in organization effectiveness, change, organization architecture, building capability, and the implications of short- and long-term decisions and strategies.
  • Serve as a trusted representative of the company by making strategic, ethical and people-focused decisions that align with and support the organization’s overall goals and best interests.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Human Resources strategies and programs, including compensation and benefits, talent management and assessment, and employee relations.
  • Build the internal development path that produces ready-now successors, while simultaneously leading external talent acquisition for key positions.
  • Apply and track key performance metrics to confirm the effectiveness of HR services in supporting the achievement of business strategy and goals.
  • Recognize and provide insight on business trends, barriers and opportunities.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, communications, business, or another related field.
  • 10-15 years of experience (including 5+ years of senior level leadership) in Human Resources (or related areas)
  • Demonstrated expertise in talent acquisition and growth, and human capital management.
  • Proficiency in basic HR practice areas including: compensation, benefits, and labor laws.
  • Proficiency in organization effectiveness practice areas: organization design, performance management, culture change, and individual and team effectiveness.
  • Proficiency in consulting, coaching, strategic solution development, facilitation and design.
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a consistent in-office presence five days per week.
Preferred
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
WHO YOU ARE

You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and high attention to detail and accuracy. You meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, communicate clearly, and lead effectively. You have an “all-in” orientation to your job and operate with a bias to action. And you have meaningful experience utilizing AI to improve effectiveness and productivity, and you pair a strategic mindset with hands‑on execution.

Benefits include a 401(k) plan, health and dental coverage, short-term disability, paid time off, paid holidays, and flexible spending accounts.

WHY KEH

KEH is a business growing both its scale and sophistication at the same time. It has a strong history of double-digit growth while always operating in a prudent and smart financial manner, focused on long-term success and not growing to grow. It is majority-held by an investment firm with a core orientation of investing into companies to build them to be “long‑term great.” KEH is a place for those who can operate with a strategic and execution orientation and who have a desire to be “all‑in” toward winning in the market and the success of the Company and the team.
