Job summary

Feed Energy Company in Des Moines, IA is seeking an experienced Production Supervisor to lead shift operations, enforce SOPs, and train the team. The role includes overseeing safety, coordinating planning meetings, and approving safe work permits for maintenance.

You will monitor equipment, manage material movement and blending, mentor staff, and participate in root-cause analysis for the Perfect Load Index. Training spans three months, Monday–Friday, with onboarding and ongoing coaching.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; additional education preferred.
• Minimum 2+ years of supervisory experience in related industry.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage records and logs with accuracy.
• Ability to operate a computer and follow written instructions.
• Sound judgment in operating production equipment.

Responsibilities

• Enforces SOPs and leads training to ensure understanding of updates.
• Leads daily pass-down meetings and ensures cross-shift communication.
• Approves safe work permits for maintenance and non-routine tasks.
• Monitors operations and automated systems for safety and efficiency.
• Oversees material movement, inventory accuracy, and blend preparation.
• Reviews production data and performance metrics to stay aligned with priorities.
• Maintains a visible floor presence and covers operator duties when needed.
• Supports customer complaint investigations and root-cause analysis.
• Provides coaching, mentoring, and progressive discipline per policy.
• Oversees onboarding and continuous training for operator development.

This will train on days for three months on a Monday - Friday schedule

Participates in plant leadership activities and attends coordination and planning meetings, including those outside of regular shift hours.

• Enforces adherence to SOPs and leads training efforts to ensure team understanding of updates and procedural changes.


• Leads daily pass down meetings and ensures effective communication across shifts to support a cohesive team environment.


• Approves safe work permits for maintenance and contractors to ensure safe execution of non-routine tasks.


• Monitors operations, equipment, and automated systems to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe production; addresses process or mechanical issues as they arise.


• Oversees material movement, inventory accuracy, and blend preparation to meet product and customer specifications.


• Reviews production data, meeting notes, and performance metrics to stay informed and aligned with operational priorities.


• Maintains a visible floor presence and performs Operator responsibilities during production gaps or staffing shortages


• Supports customer complaint investigations and contributes to root cause analysis related to the Perfect Load Index (PLI).


• Monitors Operator performance, morale, and conduct; provides coaching, mentoring, and progressive discipline in line with company policy.


• Oversees onboarding and continuous training to ensure Operator development and procedural compliance.


• Requirements: - High School diploma or GED required, additional education preferred.


• 2+ years of supervisory experience in related industry or field.


• Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, customer service skills including ability to complete accurate records and logs. Ability to effectively manage and interact with people on a one-on-one basis. Ability to follow directions, interpret and work from written instruction, knowledge of basic math skills, ability to operate a computer.


• Ability to make sound judgements when operating production equipment.
