Legend Biotech is seeking a Head of Global Manufacturing Science & Technology as part of the Manufacturing Science & Technology team based in Bridgewater, NJ.

Role Overview

TheHead of Global Manufacturing Science & Technology (MSAT) is the enterprise technical leader responsible for ensuring the robustness, scalability, capability, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes across the product lifecycle. The role establishes the global MSAT strategy and provides technical leadership from late-stage development and technology transfer through commercial manufacturing and lifecycle management. The Head of Global Manufacturing Science & Technologyensures that manufacturing processes are scientifically understood, technically capable, operationally robust, scalable, and continuously improved to support reliable supply, product quality, patient needs, and business growth.

As the enterprise technical authority for manufacturing processes, the Head of Global Manufacturing Science & Technologydrives process robustness, technology transfer, process validation, continued process verification, technical investigations, manufacturing optimization, and advanced manufacturing capabilities across the global network. The incumbent will be a member of the GMS Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

Global MSAT Strategy & Technical Leadership

• Define and execute the global MSAT strategy and operating model aligned with business, portfolio, and manufacturing priorities.
• Establish global technical standards, capabilities, and governance for manufacturing processes across internal and external sites.
• Serve as the senior technical authority for process capability, robustness, scalability, and manufacturing performance.

Process Technology & Manufacturing Performance

• Own the technical strategy for process characterization, validation, process capability, continued process verification, and process monitoring.
• Drive consistency and systematic improvement of manufacturing processes to increase yield, reliability, capacity, throughput, consistency, and cost efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership for manufacturing investigations, process deviations, and recurring performance issues.
• Establish science- and data-based approaches to identify process risks and proactively improve manufacturing performance.

Technology Transfer & Commercialization

• Provide MSAT leadership for technology transfer and manufacturing readiness from development into commercial operations.
• Ensure effective transfer of process knowledge, control strategies, technical standards, and manufacturing capabilities into internal and external manufacturing networks.
• Partner with CMC and R&D to ensure development programs are designed for commercial scalability, manufacturability, and process robustness.
• Provide technical input to major manufacturing network, capacity, and commercialization decisions.

Lifecycle Management & Continuous Improvement

• Own the MSAT strategy for the technical lifecycle of commercial products, including process improvements, scale-up/scale-out, site transfers, capacity expansion, and manufacturing optimization.
• Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve quality, yield, throughput, cost, cycle time, and supply resilience.
• Lead implementation of advanced process technologies, automation, modeling, analytics, and digital manufacturing capabilities.
• Ensure manufacturing knowledge and process data are systematically leveraged to drive continuous improvement.

Manufacturing & Global Network

• Provide technical leadership, support and governance for MSAT activities at internal sites, CMOs/CDMOs and other external manufacturing partners.
• Ensure consistent technical standards, process understanding, technology transfer, and lifecycle management across the global manufacturing network.
• Partner with Manufacturing leadership to resolve technical, process, and performance issues.

Innovation, Digital & Advanced Manufacturing

• Establish the strategic roadmap for advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, digital manufacturing, process analytics, and data science.
• Accelerate adoption of emerging technologies that improve manufacturing control, predictability, flexibility, and efficiency.
• Promote the use of data-driven and predictive approaches to enhance process understanding and manufacturing performance.
• Build and lead a high-performing global MSAT organization with the technical depth and capabilities required to support a growing pipeline and commercial portfolio.
• Develop organizational capabilities, talent, succession, and technical leadership across the global manufacturing network.
• Serve as a senior member of the Global Manufacturing & Supply Leadership Team, contributing to manufacturing strategy, investment decisions, portfolio priorities, and supply resilience.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership on major manufacturing, technology, process, and investment decisions.
• Represent the company with strategic partners, regulators, industry organizations, and external technical forums.

Requirements

• Advanced degree, preferably PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline.
• 20+ years of progressive experience in MSAT, process development, manufacturing science, technical operations, or related biopharmaceutical functions, including significant global leadership experience.
• Proven global experience leading MSAT for commercial biopharmaceutical products, preferably including cell therapy, gene therapy, or other advanced modalities.
• Strong expertise in process characterization, validation, technology transfer, CPV, process optimization, manufacturing technology, and lifecycle management.
• Proven ability to lead complex technical decisions across R&D, CMC, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Engineering, and Supply Chain.

Pay Range (Base Pay):

$271,800 - $360,000 USD

• Access to Company Confidential Information. I acknowledge that for the sole and limited purpose of evaluating a possible employment relationship with me, the Company might disclose, or enable me to have access to, certain Confidential Information of the Company, as defined below. • Definition of “Confidential Information.” For purposes of this Agreement, “Confidential Information” shall mean any and all information and materials provided to me by the Company, including without limitation, inventions, trade secrets, software code, product development and marketing strategies, ideas, processes, formulas, know-how, unpublished financial information, business plans, contractual relationships with third parties and operating strategies; memoranda, notes, records, drawings, manuals, disks, or other documents and media; and all embodiments, copies, extracts, and summaries thereof; provided, however, that “Confidential Information” shall not include information that: (a) is generally known or available to the public, or (b) is furnished to me by a third party who obtained such information using lawful means and without any restrictions on disclosure.
• Third Party Information. I agree that during the course of communications with the Company pursuant to this Agreement or in connection with my application and interviews for employment with the Company, I will not make any unauthorized use or disclosure to the Company of any confidential or proprietary information or trade secrets of any other person or entity to whom I have an obligation of confidentiality with respect to such information, including any current or former employer. I further agree not to provide to the Company any materials or documents of any third party that are not generally available to the public.
• Remedies for Breach. I acknowledge that in the event of any breach of this Agreement, the Company will not have an adequate remedy in money or damages, and therefore the Company shall be entitled to obtain temporary, preliminary and/or permanent injunctive relief to redress any such breach, from any court of competent jurisdiction, and that the Company’s right to obtain such relief shall not limit its right to obtain other available remedies.
• General. The interpretation and enforcement of this Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of California. This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties concerning the subject matters hereof; it supersedes any and all prior agreements or representations, written or oral, with respect to its subject matters; and it cannot be modified except in a written agreement signed by the Company.
